I have a 5 gallon tank with about 12 younger plants in it, no filter or heater and a Leopard Danio in it right now. Want to keep it this way, with no heat or filter. Could a group of 3 danio work in this tank, or a pair? I don't have room for a larger tank, so need to make this one work. Would like to have at least two fish in there if possible. I would sure appreciate any ideas?

Working on the principle 1 gallon per inch of fish i would say your tank is to small for danios given that they grow to around 2.5 inches adult size that would allow you 2 fish. Danios are schooling fish so having just 2 in the tank is likely to stress them out due to lack of numbers and lead to their early demise. However if you where to bite the bullet and put a heater in and a hidey hole your tank would be great for a single betta i know it is only a single fish but the males can be quite striking and pleasing to watch
