I've read several posts on this topic but my situation seems to be a bit different, maybe even easier. I've taken some LR and sand from my 16 gal to start a pico tank and now I'd like to add a pound or so to fill up the space. I'm hoping to get "cured" rock from the LFS and be able to just add it to the 16 gal. Comments?

You cannot trust that there wont be any die off, even if it is cured... save yourself some money and buy dry rock. Rinse it off and stick it in, no worry that way and its a lot cheaper

If you buy the rock from your LFS and come straight home and put it in your tank you shouldn't have any die-off. But I'd prolly also go with dry rock just because its cheaper.

Zero die off, excellent water params. Worked just fine, in fact, I added a couple of very cool looking new pieces today.

if you'll be driving home from the fish store- you'll probably be ok. Most die off occurs when it's shipped.
