How many African Cichlids can i put in a 55 gal? What other kind of top or bottom dwellers can I put with them?

Depends on the fish you want. A pleco can go in as a bottom feeder, but there's not much else I would put in with them.

Well, I would like african cichlids that get no bigger than 5 or 6 inches. Can I mix the different lake varieties?

I believe the different lake varieties require different water perimeters.

I would not reccomed mixing the differnet lake types as they have different levels of aggression and have differnt water needs.

Plecos can grow up to 4ft long.

A Normal 55gal tank is 4ft long.

Try going with a Clown or bristlenose pleco that dont get nearly as big as a common pleco does.

Ok, If I choose what lake variety I want. How many can I fit in a 55 gal? I was thinking 12. Is that right? Groups of 3 of four different varieties so maybe they will breed.
