What is this black stuff growing on my Amazon sword and how do I get rid of it?ImageUploadedByAquarium Advice1425868370.474208.jpgi think it's algae but all my algae eaters stay away form it

It looks like black hair algae to me. Most "algae eaters" only eat a couple kinds of algae, and black hair algae is rarely eaten by "algae eaters", the exception is the siamese algae eater. They eat the most wide variety of algae, including black hair.

Thats a very unhealthy looking sword. It desperately needs root tabs.

How long do you run your lights daily? How big is your tank? What light fixture do you have?

It has root taps and gets about 10 hours a day it's in a 20g tank with another sword that it sprouted from and I don't know flux or how to figure that out. It's relatively new or sprouted about a week and a half ago

Looks like Black Beard Algae ? Most fish won't touch it.

Are you doing regular water changes ?

For now, I'd reduce lighting to 6 hours a day and look at perhaps spot treating the algae.

How long ago did you put in Root Tabs ? What brand ?
