How important is alkelinity in a setup? Petsmart seemed to put great importance in it. Have angelfish, corys and a rainbow shark in the tank.

Alkalinity is a very overlooked aspect of the hobby...but like most other water chemistry issues...tampering with it will almost always cause more harm than good. Having a healthy water change schedule is normally all that's needed to maintain a good balance in all but the most extreme situations.
