Echinodorus (almost all of them are Amazon)
Myriophyllum
Cabomba
Hair Grass
Lilaeopsis
Mayaca fluviatilis

witch of those are backgrounds midgrounds and forgrounds? thanks!

Echinodorus - lots of species, anywhere from foreground to background
Myriophyllum - mid to background
Cabomba - mid to background
Hair Grass - foreground
Lilaeopsis - foreground
Mayaca fluviatilis - back ground

Any of the stems can be mid or background depending on how you trim them.
There is also Stargrass, Alternanthera reineckii, Brazilian pennywort and Christmas moss too.

does hairgrass spread? which is better hair grass or micro sword, they look pretty similar? oh and what is good plant media, i have gravel now?

It will spread and form a nice carpet. Both hairgrass and microsword are nice, but for a faster growing carpet I would go with the hairgrass.

dwarf hairgrass has a huge range, it's common in several parts of the US as well. I've seen it in this area of the country along with e.tennelus, mayaca, hornwort, myrio, cabomba, bacopa, and many others.

There are a ton of plants that work for an amazon biotope, I like using different sword plants as they take up a lot of real estate so it doesn't take a ton of plants to fill the tank in.

how many hairgrass would i need to start a carpet in my 29gal? can you keep it from carpeting in some areas of the tank?

the 2 i really want now are the hairgrass and a ruffle sword

it'll take a lot of hairgrass, I know in my LFS they have it in little pots about the diameter of a half dollar for around 2.50 or 3 dollars each. It's not going to grow like wildfire, unless you have something seriously high tech going on in there, so you'll be able to move it accordingly.

Not a whole lot 3-4 pots maybe or order a mat from aquariumplants.com(cheaper than pots), but when planting pull the plant from the pot cut off the extra rockwool just below the roots, then cut each plant in quarters and plants the plugs with filling space in between each one. Mat you just cut 1 inch squares and plant.

That is a good beginner list of plants. the only thing I don't agree with on the layout is the placement of E. tenellus it should be planted closer to midground like they have the quadricostatus especially in a smaller tank as it gets a bit taller and would require constant trimming of larger leaves to keep it short if used in the foreground.

that is great....what about for a 29gal, and where can i get those all from i know liveaquari doesnt have all of those?

o and my stocking is...

10 neons
2 rams
6 marble hatchets
4 or 5 julii corys

Aquariumplants.com is a good place to get plant's and will have most if not all of the plants you would need Aquabid is also a great place to find plants.
