Anemone question

I was wondering which species would be considered a more "hardy".

Haitian condylactis Or purple tip long tentacle

I have a 55 gallon with a sebae clown that needs a new home. Which one would be better.

It's hit or miss whether a clown will host ANY anenome. I know mine didnt go near the condy i had at all. My clowns ended up hosting a coral instead. I woudl give that a shot before trying a nem.

How old is your tank and how big? Whats the light setup that you use? Nems are VERY particular....

I have a 55 gallon with one T8 30 watt marine glo and one T8 40 watt life glo

That light won't be enough to sustain a nem. :-(

they are usually kept under 4 t5 bulbs or metal halides. They require ALOT of light. And an established tank, usually at least 8-9 months old. This is due to their need for pristine stable water. It usually takes a few months to get through any parameter swings.

Condy anemones will never host a clown. They are found in the Caribbean where there are no native clown species. It will just eat up your clown.

Since I can't swing an anemone, what kind of coral would you recommend. Right now the clown is hosting the filter pipe so I want to get him a companion.

Any coral that is flowy is a good choice, like a frogspawn, hammer or a torch. They've been known to host mushrooms as well. lol

Just watch out there are no sharp edges on the coral so the clown, if he does host it, doesnt get scraped up.

My clowns play around in a gorgonian I have. I don't think they host it though.

Do those corals (frogspawn,hammer, torch) have any major requirements in the tank like nems do?

Nope, just good water parameters and decent light. No super lighting required. And a lot safer for your tank in my opinion.

I wouldn't say so, just good water, any of the euphylia mentioned will be happy enough under moderate light, although I'm not sure about T8's. I'm sure it's the nem/coral that's the host, not the fish...

I have two saltwaters well three now I just started a 20g yesterday. In my 75 I have 2 false perculas and they host a big shell that I put in so when I set my 120g up I found and even bigger shell and put it in that tank and bought 2 black clowns and they are hosting it. Which makes it convient when they lay egg I can just take the shell out.

Awesome, I love all the mushrooms and maybe next Time I get some clowns I'll try to get them to host a shell somehow, seems way easier if they lay eggs

I started just like that and now I have to many to count. You should get some hairy mushrooms they get big and split like crazy also

And I'll have to see what my lfs has for hairy mushrooms, how big do they get though? They would only be going in a 30g
