Another Live Rock Question

While I was in my LFS a week or so ago I saw a display tank set-up and it had a lot of live rock. The rock had grass growing from it . It at least looked like grass and it wasn't algae. In fact there were a couple of tanks with this in it. It looked very good. Is this a special type of rock or is it something that appears after a while on rock or must it be seeded? I just it was a very nice effect.

No, it was indeed algae...though it was macro-algae (kinda like kelp) rather than the nuisance micro-algae that makes tanks look 'dirty'.

It actually looked like blades of grass.

possible sea grass? I was told to stay away from sea grass cause we have alot of grass flats here and I was goin to get some for mine but was told it could be harmful to fish.....guess it has chemicals or something
