Hi

My mickey mouse platy is pregnant, we have had her 4 weeks today - anyone know roughly how long left she has before dropping fry??

She is getting bigger and is getting more square like now and her gravid spot is quite dark.

Four weeks is considered the normal for platies to drop. If the water is warmer than 30 Degrees celcius, It could take up to 3 weeks to drop (Colder water or no food, It could take up to 6 weeks to drop)

The gravid spot is a good guideline when It comes to handling guppies in pregnancy, But, however in platies it rarely appears and when it does is not at all reliable.

It is almost impossible to tell from looking at a fish how far along she is in her pregnancy. The size of the Abdomen depends on how many fry the certain Livebearer is carrying. 10-60 is the normal in an average of 25 per drop.

The best way of predicting is to wait until she drops some fry and then count the days, she will usually drop within a week of four weeks since her last fry.
