Something to think about...If the pipes and hot water tank in the new place are older, you might want to try smaller more frequent cold water changes.

Some of the unwanted chemicals may be coming from the hot water pipes, or tank.

that is a good point. It is alway wise to run the hot water for awhile prior to doing a PWC. This gets some of the Cu out of the pipes as well.
 
The pipes are probably around minimum 60 years old. :) Very old pipes. I fill up the 29 gal before the 55 but I think I'll try running the hot water for a while first before filling the tanks.
