automatic feeders and overflow boxes

Greetings. I'd like to use an automatic feeder so as to inconvenince friends and family as little as possible during the three weeks I'll be away in July.

I have an overflow that carries water to the sump, however, which basically just skims the food off of the water surface before the fish can get to it.

Any suggestions for automatic feeding under these conditions?

I dont see it being possible. Your tank is going to need freshwater top offs during that time, how will that be managed? Do you have that automated? If not, just have whoever is doing your top off's, feed your fish. They only need to be fed a couple of times a week to make it through til your home.
