Baby betta

So I bought a betta from the pet store about a week ago (maybe less).
He's in a 1 gal until he outgrows it. He's only about an inch long.

He won't eat from the top but will chase the pellets down. This results in deep cleaning every two days. How do I wean him onto top feeding?
I called Petco and they said they feed their babies 2x a week- the same pellets I'm feeding him but he'll eat them off the bottom and not from the top.

Give me advice pleaseee

Maybe it's the thrill of the hunt? Guess they get well soaked on the way down and add flavour.

Try soaking the pellets in garlic juice. It seems to help finicky feeders
