what are the best types of food to feed neon tetras and platies? include prices of food unless if there things from kitchen.

My tetras and platies eat regular flake food. I mix in some freeze dried bloodworms and frozen brine shrimp on occasion, but neither of them are picky eaters. They eat pretty much anything, especially the platies.

Any basic tropical fish flake food with added spiralina. Costs vary between brands and size containers. Read ingredient labels. You want fish or fish meal to be the first ingredient. I like Omega One flake foods.

(scroll to mid page for Freshwater flake)

(Info. on HBH veggie flake. A very good veggie flake. Good ingredients).

The average size can (28 gm) goes for about $7 give or take a few cents.

A mix between these two flakes would make a very good staple diet. Less wasteful ingredients mean less poop and more nutrition for healthier water and healthier fish.

I am a huge fan of New Life Spectrum. They do make a flake, although I do not know the cost.

I like Omega brands, and Ocean Nutrition. you might think Ocean Nutrition forumula 1 and 2 is for SW only, but nope...my fish LOVE their formula foods, frozen and pelletized.

For me, a very important part of my fishies diet is variety.

I have probably 10 different kinds of food that I rotate through and feed, and I think many will agree that variety is good! :)

I do a combination of just regular tropical flake food and vegie flakes. Then I drop in vegi wafers for the CAE's. I also do an occasional freeze-dried bloodworms. And freeze-dried plankton for the bala shark.
