We had an electric blue until recently, when a hurricane cut the power and did a lot of damage around here. The pet store crayfish (crawfish if you're in the South) grow to 5-7 inches. Individual temperaments, from mild to very aggressive, explain the range of experiences with keeping fish, snails, etc with them.
Ours was quite aggressive - we actually saw him headlock a mystery snail, after they'd been cohabiting for weeks, and punch its lights out before eating it. As well as regular feeding we bought some small 17¢ goldfish to be companions-diversion-meals, in that order. The weaker ones were hunted and eaten when he was building strength for a molt periodically.
We were amazed that any survived at all, given his instincts. But two did. The fastest. So I guess there's just one way to tell...try and see...
