Hey everyone. I've recently had a little algae bloom in my 12 gallon tank and was wondering why it happened and what I can do to get rid of it. It's over two of the rocks, some of the exposed plant roots, and the edges of some plant leaves.

Last time I had it I removed the rocks Itried srubbing the algae off. It's really difficult to do and I don't want to have to do it again.

What is this algae called anyway?

Well I get this too. It looks like black beard algae. I hate to say this but I know of no way to cure this. I just keep trimming away at it. You're right. It's a PITA.

I have this stuff to, it has nearly devoured the roots of my Java ferns, starting to cover the leaves of my anubias nana. I am still looking for a remedy.
