Can gbr cichlids live on there own

Hello, I currently have two gbr cichlids in my 16gal tank and they are both female. Today I noticed that one of them has got dropsy because it has raised scales. I don't think it will last much longer and there is no cure. When she passes away will the other one be ok on its own or will I need to purchase another one? The other gbr looks really healthy and active and comes up to feed every time

It should be ok but adding a male will be better.

Would there be enough space to a male to a 16gal. Also the gbr with dropy recently passed away so she the remaining one is on its own
