Can I buy a big pleco for my new 40 gallon long with guppies?

It would be wiser to get a smaller bristlenose or rubberlip pleco. They will stay smaller, cause less ammonia from feces and not cause size issues in the future. They stay small enough to live their entire lives in a 40 long.

I wish I had known this when I got mine. Now I like him and don't really want to get rid of him but at least he is in a 75g Above all do what is right for the fish.

I have owned plecos for years and they all have outgrown their tanks except for one. I would recommend buying a pleco that will stay small otherwise you would be looking to rehome to a bigger tank in the future.
