Carbon bag in my HOB skimmer?

I've done some reading on adding carbon to a SW setup to help keep the water nice and clear.

I've added a bag of carbon to the return chamber on my HOB octopus skimmer. Is this a good idea?

Water seams to be passing through the carbon with ease.

will this have any effect?

i have a HOB filter hanging in my sump with only a couple bags of carbon in it. water is crystal...

yea like right now i just have 1 bag of carbon. im thinking of adding one or two more into the return chamber
