cayno bacteria

hi all i think i have cayno bactria in my tank.. it looks like a thick dark green to blackish carpet covering my sand bed and is now growing like fur on my rockscape.. what causes cayno and how do i get rid of it.. also apart from looking nasty does it do any harm
