I recently decided to change the media in my magnum 350 from carbon to bio balls do you guys think this is a more natural approach? Is carbon needed?

Some people run carbon all the time, other run it periodicly, and some don't run it all all. I would take the middle ground and run it periodicly. Two weeks a month would probably be sufficient to take out any impurities from the water.

Carbon is chemical filtration, bio balls are biological filtration. Are you lacking biological filtration that you think you need to add more?

I run ROX 0.8 carbon 24/7.

So you have no LR, or LS, correct?
Tell us more about the equipment and look of your tank. If all you for filtration is the magnum, why not continue to run it as designed?
