Choice of Live sand

I am getting everything I need to start a reef tank together and recently bought a few bags of CaribSea "Seaflor special grade reef sand" which I planned on using and seeding with live sand. The question I have is the grain size of the caribsea brand is 1.25 to 1.95 mm and was wondering if this is too large a size? What size is most live sand if you mail order it? I dont want to order live sand and it be .1 to .2 mm and just sink to the bottom of the caribsea or does it really matter and I am just paranoid? Thanks...

Let me re ask the question differently. Would I be fine using the CaribSea "Seaflor special grade reef sand" which like I said has a grain size of about 1.25 to 1.95 or should I go with Southdown playsand which has much smaller grain size? Thanks...

definitely go with the Southdown. not only is the smaller grain size more beneficial, but the southdown will save you a TON of cash.

smaller grain size means more grains per cubic inch. more grains per cubic inch means more surface area. more surface area means more bacteria... which is the whole point.

Your in TN, unless you know of a source for SD it might be a challenge to find it that far south.
