I have a planted tank with eco complete substrate and would like to add a school cory catfish. I understand they need soft substrate like sand. But has anyone had experience or opinions about eco complete damaging their barbels/whispher ?
I have Eco and have had no problems that I can see from the ones in there for about 8 months. Some people have added a sandy area in the center of the tank where they feed. Though I understand that one of the biggest issues with Cories is poor water conditions causing degradation in the barbels.
I don't have a sand pit for mine but it might make it more fun for them.

Water quality would be more important then substrate everyday for them IMO.
What kind are you thinking of and how many.
They act their best in groups of 6 of their own kind.
