I like the idea of the hermits because they are more interesting than snails to me. I do know that snails are good cleaners, but hermits eat snails and I don't want to have that situation in my tank. Is a hermit only clean up crew adequate? Or, should I just stick with snails even though that does not really make me happy? I am cycling a 10 gallon FO for a single ocellaris with 1 inch sand bed. If hermits only is okay, how many to get for a 10 gallon? Do they reproduce?

Don't quote me but I've heard a few different times that it's hoot to have one crew member per gallon of water. They don't all have to be crabs or all snails but a mixture of both. If I'm wrong I apologize and I'm sure someone on here will set you straight

snails clean the glass where crabs clean rock and sand.

you can also get nasarius snails to sift through the sand
