I'm in the first week of cycling my tank, I started on Sunday. At first the water was very clear and yesterday it was cloudy, today I noticed the drift wood from my other tank I added has something growing on it. In the water it looks like it has a layer of dust over it, it's white and covers most of it. I scraped it off with my finger and it just floated in water. When I take it out of the water it doesn't look like there is anything there. Any idea what it is and if it is harmful or something?

New DW in a cycling tank will develop a white, stringy looking substance almost cotton in appearance. My DW had it and it eventually will go away on it's own. Some fish like munching on it ... my RTS had a field day with it.

Oh okay thanks, when I added it to my first tank that was already cycled it didn't form so I was worried that wasn't supposed to be happening.
