Difference between old school Eheim classic filters and new modern made??

Is the are difference between the old school classic Eheim filters (with flat tops) and the new modern made ones (domed tops)?
I'll attach a pic so you can see the difference. Im hoping some with experience with both can help.
The domed ones are made in China, and are around 20% cheaper. Do they have isues with leaking etc etc?

Im guessing no ones used the new domed version if eheim...
I'm paying extra to buy the old look.
