DIY root tabs

I've read threads about using osmocote as root tabs. I made my own the other night and placed them under the substrate.

I was wondering how long it takes for these osmocote pellets to start taking affect on my plants? I just want to have a time frame in mind to monitor whether or not I need to supplement with other ferts, etc.

It would probably depend on the plant, and how quickly the root system can develop to reach the osmocote. I bought some osmocote plus capsules, and my crypts have definitely reached them. They have been planted for approximately one month.
