Dumb freshwater question

Actually that's 2 different ones. picture one show's the blue one on the right and the kinda purpleish color on the left.
 
male bettas are the ones with the fins!

those look like boys to me :)

usually the females are slightly duller in color, and the fins are much shorter.

Just a note on the goldfish...while traditionally they are "cold water" fish, the ornamental varieties actually do better btw 74-78F, according to goldfishinfo.com, and a couple of other sources I've found....but they are also better off on their own, mostly because they "annoy the hell outta the other fish" (as put so eloquently by my lfs...lol!
