I put this on the general page, too, but know the most experienced planted tank folks might see it….

I've had a planted 20 gallon up and running for about a year now and am thinking of doing some rearranging. It is a heavily planted tank with EcoComplete substrate. If I decide to redo this tank, do I rinse the EcoComplete (like one would with gravel) or just do a good vacuuming of it after pulling up the plants? My fish and shrimp would have to go in a tote for a day.

I've done this before with eco complete... I just used a gravel vac and got most of that settled detritus out. It was pretty much good to go after that. I stuck some flourish tabs in after for good measure. Gave my substrate a fresh re-start for the rescape. Plants did very well after.

Thank so much, Brian. That was what I thought would be best, too. I know there will still be some mulm that way, but it is all plant food!
