Today I observed my female betta releasing (and eating) eggs. As far as I know this is not very common, especially since she has never been in contact with a male. This is the second time this has happened (first time was May 2). Is this something I should be concerned about? Any ideas as to why this keeps happening? Thanks!

I have only had 1 female drop eggs and this was after I attempted to breed it then moved it out of the tank. No clue why it did it but my guess is that she held the eggs for to long. Again this is just a guess.

Bettas produce eggs whether they are fertilized or not. Most of the time they are reabsorbed, but sometimes they are excreted. In either case, the fish makes sure to regain the nutrients spent in producing them. Either be reabsorption or by consumption--as in your case.
