My bro just helped set up my first tank. It's a 30 gallon Lake Malawi African Cichlid Tank. It's stock is:
2 kenyi's
2 afras
1 cobalt blue zebra
1 bumblebee
1 electric yellow lab

Currently running an Aquaclear 50, possibly upgrading to a 70.

Thanks, my bro and his gf got me the tank for my 13th bday. I'm testing water daily for ammonia and doing water changes as necessary! I was wondering what is your opinion on adding a synodontis catfish?

I think that would be a good choice, especially if you decide to get a larger tank. I believe these fish are medium to large sized and are easily kept in aquariums. However, I'm not sure if it can house with the cichlids. I know some cichlids are aggressive fish.

Thanks for the advice. I will do some research on that type of fish!

syndontis are usually the recommended bottom feeder or as said above, clean up crew for cichlids. I agree. So yes, but they may possibly need a larger tank when they get older or to be re-homed.

You can try lookong into the small synos such as the dwarf petricola or synodontis lucipinnis same fish just a different name they get like 3-4in
I have some pretty mean cichlids but they dont bother them at all not even during feedings
