Fish Question? Damsel vs Angel

I have 2 of these guys in my tank, I was under the impression they were one type of fish. Then a friend told me I was wrong. I am now asking the people, so please solve this for me.

Damsel. Stegastes sp - hard to say exactly which 1, possibly s.diencaeus, s.favilatus or s.variabilis.
