What type of pet store sells better fish?

It all depends on where you live. Some places, the chain stores have healthy stock, other places they don't. Check into the local mom and pop fish stores around you too. Usually, they are good

If your comparing chain stores to local fish stores which are privately owned it all depends on your location. Some places the chain stores provide healthier fish and in others in vice versa. In mares the local fish stores are better.

Where I am (Cherry Hill, NJ) our Petco is excellent. But the other chain store 1 mile away isn't. We also have an excellent independent store 45 min away (Aquarium Center in Clemonton off Rt 42). Investigate what's available and go several times before making a final evaluation.
