I'm looking to order my first batch of fertilizers. I noticed the breakdown of Plantex CSM has 7% iron. Since my substrate is a source of Iron, I'm concerned that the CSM will promote an algae outbreak from an excess of it.

Do the plants just absorb the iron from the water column instead of from the substrate?

Everything but rhizome plants, floating plants, and the various mosses should get all the iron they need from the substrate.

I personally believe my current algae problem was enhanced by my dosing w/ leaf zone which contains iron... but I have no proof :). The other cause was probably low phosphates... so I doubt the Fe in the water column s a problem unless your other nutrients get out of whack, in which case it may contribute to the problem.
