Hi everyone I have recently changed to black fluorite substrate on the bag it says it is perfect for heathly roots n gives them what they need but I have been reading u have to add root tabs well that basically makes the flourite a waste of money don't it? I does Excel n flourish fertz, wud all this be enough?

There's more to substrate than nutrients. Any clay derivative substrate (flourite, ecocomplete, etc) can grab nutrients from the water column or surroundings and present it in a useable form to plants. That alone makes it leaps and bounds above sand or gravel. The root tabs serve to streamline nutrients to the substrate, which greatly benefits root feeders as well as any other plants.

I'd get the tabs. It really helps my ten gallon. I'm using black sand with tabs and flourish.
