i collected this gar from a local harbour.... anyone know what it is?IMG_1479962604.446648.jpgIMG_1479962695.247184.jpg
it has ALOT of sharp teeth and its mouth can open up VERY wide.

It looks like a goby not gar??
The mouth and teeth are for scraping algae off rocks. This is what that fish lives off of I would bet...
You will need massive amounts of algae for him...
Get rocks from same harbor....

I believe that is a needlefish and not a gar. As previously mentioned, not usually a good community fish and will eat whatever he can get hold of. Look at the mouth and if you see a long line of teeth, that should be your indentifier. Look up "Pacific Needlefish" ( assuming you caught it in the Pacific. There are Atlantic species of these as well.) to confirm. (y)
