GFO and carbon

So I'm planning on getting a BRS reactor for my cichlid tank so I can get better performance from using carbon than just using a media bag thrown into my AC 70.

I guess my real question is would I see any benefit from using GFO(phosphate remover) alongside the carbon in my freshwater aquarium. I do not have any plants in the aquarium.
