Depends how heavily planted the tank is, along with occupants of said tank. Some fish are sensitive to nitrates. I try to maintain 10ppm in my moderately planted 200 litre. A lot of people try to keep nitrates under 20ppm. IMO I would say anything under 20ppm should be a GOOD level. Jon
