I must say that google wandering, while sometimes helpful, can also be very confusing. That's why i got an account on this forum. I googled for hours on end and could not find a straight answer. One site said this, the other said that. That's why I took nearly all my questions to this site, so I could get a straight answer. I googled what I could, but since there is so much conflicting information out there, there wasn't much I could actually find out. I think that is why many people ask specific questions over and over.
Now, I am all for searching the forum for threads like the one you want to start. It would help a lot. But, even that occasionally doesn't help. For instance, cycles. Every cycle is different, you can't really find a thread started by a person in the same situation as you. So, that is IMO one of the reasons we see so many cycling threads out there.
I myself have backed down from answering many threads, because I feel the same way as you do. I am tired of repeating myself. And backing down is all you can really do in situations like that. You can't keep other people from posting a zillion threads about every little aquarium-related inquiry they have.
I also agree with what Andrew said about articles. Writing articles would be a great way to solve some problems. Instead of repeating yourself, you can just link an article you wrote. Tons of people were asking questions about aquarium salt, so I wrote an article. Now when they ask a salt-related question I can just link the article instead of repeating myself over and over. Also, when they see your article they may find other articles that answer their questions and keep them from posting more threads.
Also, one last thing I want to touch on; it's a little pet peeve of mine.....calling people newbies, complaining about newbies, etc. It's like more experienced people who have been members here longer are somehow superior to people who are new to the hobby and/or the forum. I am by no means singling out one person, as many do this. I would just like to point out that this is a forum to help people learn, not a place for new people to feel inferior.
Thanks for reading and considering, I know I talk a lot
