Gravel question

Starting first planted tank (10 GAL)
Trying to decide if this substrate Super Naturals Premium Aquarium Substrate - Gravel & Sand - Fish - PetSmart is better than Eco Complete Planted Black Aquarium Substrate - Aquarium Rocks and Fish Tank Rock from petco.com.
Also was wondering if I can cover either of them with thin layer of finer substrate for my Corries and Kuhlies. If yes should it be a special planted tank sand or any sand?

Eco Complete or Sand is better than gravel.

You can use CaribSea Tahitian Moon Sand
for the whole tank. Just add root tabs if you are planting IN the sand. For Anubias or Java Ferns they are tied or glued to wood or rocks and stay above ground.

Your Corys and Kuhlis will love nice smooth sand. Pool Filter Sand works if you want white.
