That's a little large mouth Micropterus salmoides

No way is that a largemouth. Its mouth is way to small for that and the coloration is off

Coloration varies from the north to the south. And the way he's holding it may be deceiving on the mouth size. But I could be wrong also. I thought smallie at first but we already did that

I have caught them out of the Illinois river but the white edging on the tail throws me off.

So far nobody is correct. It is a North American bass species, don't remember if in the black bass family or not, but my guess is yes

Very close look, but what sp. Of m. Coosa, if that makes sense. From what I have found, it was split up by watershed
