Equipment question.

Home depot has some pond pumps.1400 gph....... would that be useable in my sump or should i buy one from an aquarium store?

Thats a good idea. Lol i should have looked at the brand name so i could do that. Ill go back tommorow. Im mostly worried about noiae. This in my bedroom. And a pump made for outside makes me wonder

If you are going to be putting it in the salt water you might want to seal any screws/metal that is showing with silicone so it doesn't rust. (sometimes they use cheap screws that will rust in SW when they make a pump for FW)

Most of the ones used for SW don't have any metal showing... including on the inside the impeller is often plastic or ceramic. Or at least coated with a sealant.

Ill have to look at it again but i think i remember seeing shiney things..ie screws on the outside

Quick update... ammonia .25 i expect that to drop to 0 any day now and nitrites up to 5.0 seems little high but thats fine.so everything is coming along smoothly. Shopping for a return pump now and something for a fuge light. Also have lots of crap and not alot of space and need somewhere to hang ky lights so thinkingof builing some storage cabnets on each side of my tank. Can store stuff and hand lights from them i hope.

Almost 10 days between posts. Glad to see that your tank is progressing hopefully you will be able to add fish soon :D

Ya i know. But when your doing a cycle from scratch it takes time and not alot to report. You just kinda have to wait. I know the process so i dont test very offen. I only need about 3 more peices of equipment i think. And i dont need 2 of them till i get coral. So not alot going on.

Btw im thinking a quiet one 4000 will suit my needs. Prolly need a little stronger but it will do a decent job. And give me peice of mind it wont be more flow then my drains will allow.

Also need a light. Getting a 6 x 54 watt t5 fixture. And a hob octopus skimmer. Then down the road will be adding 6 led strips( forget who makes them at the moment) to add shimmer and coral color. And of course my clean up crew from reef cleaners. Got that certificate from them.

it screws into 1" PVC threaded. or 3/4" or 1/2" depending on your size. I am splitting 1 pump into 2 3/4" flow accelerators.

Ya i have the 2 750 gph pumps in my tank. And thinkingof adding 1 more. Then i was going to split the return to have 2 thinks pointing at the surface. Think these are what i have been looking for.

It works well with a lineloc system. I am running the sicce syncra 5 (1321 gph) on my 120 (2 overflows) with no problem. I personally would rather have too much pump than not enough depending on how your plumbing is set up you might want to look at the 6000. with the 4000 you are only looking at 650 gph at a 5 foot head height. plus every 90 your plumbing has is the same as another foot of head height. one tee and one elbow you will be looking at about 500 gph with the 4000 and 800 gph with the 6000. 2 overflows with 1" drains will flow about 1200 gph (600 per).

Glad I could help... this is how someone else made their topper...

6000 it is then. About the only thing that scares me is flooding lol. But if im going to lose that much then the6000 will work. I think ill endup with 2 45's and 2 90's and split once it hits the water. With about 4 feet of travel
