Anyone know what this might be?

You can see and touch this in person. Is it a fuzzy/stringy area or is it a firm growth? Did it occur overnight or has it been gradually growing?

Actually i have an update.

It grew overnight and when i netted him to check it out it fell off of him. I noticed his tail is a little lighter in color in that spot. When i examined the thing that fell off it is not solid its more mucus(ie?)

Anyway, any thoughts.

How does the area look where it fell off? Injured or scraped? It's very odd to be honest but i would just keep a close eye on him and do some extra water changes. If more issues develop, please let us know!

Its lighter in color where it was. I applied some prima fix and salt to the area with a qtip. Not all at once. I added a tad bit of salt to the aquarium as I had some internal parasites take down 3 of my fish. One I had for years. Bummer.
