Help with my new 60 gallon African cichlid tank

I just got a 60 gallon tank with stand and I'm in the process of setting this tank up but I need advice on substrate (filter pool sand I'm thinking) , good filtration I heard emperor 400 is good one also rocks which I don't know where to get or I use driftwood instead any help would be greatly appreciated I'm going to post pic after I'm done.

Check and see if there is a local quarry or landscaping business. They will sell you bulk rocks for cheap and usually let you pick the ones you want. Just make sure when they go in the tank that they are secure and glued if necessary to prevent falling.
