I agree, the only other thing I would do is remove the RD and trim the lip with a clean razor blade. Keep the water pristine with a nitrate concentration below 10ppm and he will heal, the lip won't grow back but he'll be just fine. Just remember chicks dig scars!

I net the fish then lay him his side on a dampened(soaked through) towel, wrap him gently into the towel and trip his face.

Come on I've had thousands of cichlids over years and I've to trim quite a few lips due to some nasty lip locking sessions.
