got my refugium setup. it has about 14lbs of sand making it just over 3 inches deep. also was given a pretty decent piece a cheato from a local guy to get me started.

right now i have the intake into the fuge where it is rippling the top of the water, should i leave it like that or point it down where it has more flow through the cheato?

what does everyone here think about the brs gfo and carbon reactors? in the summer i have to travel for work, sometimes up to 3-4 weeks at a time. i have roommates that can handle feeding the fish while i am gone but i don't think they will be willing to do a water change. so i was thinking that the reactors may be a good idea to help keep the water clean and stable while i'm away. what do you guys think? should i look into bio pellets as well?

plus i like gadgets so im always looking for things to do to my tank

anyone have some input on the reactors?

i am thinking of ordering this during the next brs group buy.
Dual BRS GFO and Carbon Reactor - English

on there site they say it is best to run a single reactor. one for carbon and another for gfo. ideally i would like to do that but i'm not sure if i have enough room in my sump for 2 more pumps. what do you guys think?

also here is what i am thinking as far as stocking goes. what should be my next fish?

eight line wrasse (in tank)
starry blenny (in tank)
kole tang
heniochus butterfly
watchmen goby and pistol shrimp pair
ocellaris clown
B&W ocellaris clown
flasher wrasse
pair of fire fish.

not sure about the fire fish. might change those to something else.

no one has any comments? i went ahead and bit the bullet the other day and ordered new lights.

the hangers that came with them were to long to hang in the hood. the lights would have been in the water lol. a trip to lowes solved that.

wow! thats some serious blue! lol Where did you get them and are they the 1 watters or the 3 watt bulbs?

Excellent! How deep is your tank and do the lights punch all the way down to the sandbed? I'm hoping there will be enough spread to cover a 24 X 24 area...

yep no problem carey! what do you think about the brs dual carbon and gfo reactor?

also with my stacking list do you think i could scratch the fire fish and add another wrasse or two? i really want one with some blue and green

People like the brs reactors, I have two i still wanna get but just havent yet. lol I did read that the dual one can get clogged more easily than running two singles. Alot depends on the pump you use though i think. I think brs used to recommend the mag 3 for it. :)

Not sure of your stocking, I havent read back to see what you have. But a small wrasse shouldnt be too bad off the top of my head.

Yeah that's what I have been reading. I just don't know if I can fit two pumps in my sump. That's why I was thinking of getting the dual.

What do you think I should do? Get the dual or just one single? Or I can try to make room for 2 singles and hope everything fits lol

You can hang or mount one of the reactors a little bit away from the sump if you need to. That might help. Or you can take a chance on the double. If you run a mag that might be able to keep both going.

I get ya. I see your point. I barely have room for the one MJ I have in my sump. lol The only thing I can think of is use the double and if it clogs upgrade the pump to a mag drive. If you are buying the mj that they recommend and not using your own that you have already I would just get the mag to start out with. The reactor comes with a ball valve to adjust the flow so you can dial it in and change it if the media clogs.

Hmm I'll have to look into prices. I was planning to use the mj they recommend. Do you happen to know the dimensions of the mj? I'm wondering if it could go under the stand my skimmer is on lol
