I've noticed quite a few threads started about the ID of cichlids especially apistos with not so great photos so here are some guidelines to make things easier. If a mod would like to sticky this post please do.
1 Full body shot with fins raised and tail spread.
2 The markings of the fish are an important diagnostic.
3 What was the fish sold as?
4 How big is the fish? Juvenile specimens are next to impossible to I.D. on a species level.
5 Is the fish wild caught or domestic bred? Wild fis show better diagnostic features.
It may be tough to gather all of this info, but more info than just a photo can be very helpful.

It might not hurt to have a running I.D./sexing thread, like the pronunciations thread.
That could be the first post Gillie. I like it. I've been on here a lot asking male or female over the years.

This is a decent example of a good photo for sexing or I.D.

ALOT of people who join are asking ID's. They don't always know exactly where to go and what's expected. That's why they make new threads and to find more out about said particular fish.
