My fish are already having baby's so far everyone gets along well hopefully it stays that way maybe I'll hold off on the fire jewels if they are gonna chase each other although they do have that awesome red color I want in the tank so badly

Discus aggression?

My discus/ German blue Rams!

I couldn't help but notice the neons behind your discus. Do your discus not mess with them? I'm still planning my 150 gallon discus tank and wondering what else could co-exist with them besides bottom feeders.

A side note about my tank.. I just stripped all the silicone out and resealed it.. and there's still one little leak on the bottom. UGHHHHH! I have to start over.

Yeah they get along no problem, but my neon tetras are huge so they were to big to eat when the discus were small, and now that they are bigger they are use to them

'Bolt' is one of my Electric Yellows (Labidochromis caeruleus)
and 'Halo' is my female Kenyi (Metriaclima lombardoi)

Thanks! It's one of my primary concerns. I LOVE my African cichlid tank, but non-cichlids (that are not bottom feeders) have a habit of disappearing one day and reappearing the next as a set of ribs connected to a spine..

My African knife is holding his own ok.. but I think he may end up getting relocated. They don't really nip him too often anymore.. but someone got ahold of his left pectoral fin about a week ago and really worked a number on it.

I know it will vary by species and availability, but out of curiousity, how much would you say you pay for your average discus?

Honestly depends where you go.. I drove to a breeder, he sold me them for 30$ each about (1.5-2inches) ive seen some breeders sell for up to 150$ for some! Most pet stores like big als sell for 70$ or so. But I'd highly recommend going to a breeder. The hardest part about keeping discus is getting healthy ones !

Breeders

I may have some luck there. I've been told this is the largest tropical fish farm area in the world. What should I look out for on the discus (other than the normal things like ich or signs of bacterial infection).

Look for clouded eyes, make sure their eyes are clear, if you can, ask them to feed them, make sure the eat properly ect. If they don't eat properly that can mean a sing of stress or disease. If they are small, like 1-2inches there should be very little colour. They should be brown with black stripes. If they are small and have colour that means they are faslely colouried when they were young which means you cannot properly breed them when they are older! I'm not an expert though!

Look for round circular body's not elongated body's look at the eyes they should be proportionate to the body not really big. Look at there foreheads it should be wide and thick not skinny or pointed. Ask to see them eat if they don't eat like a pig don't take them.
