Is Liverock and a skimmer enough?

I've always had a canister filter with carbon but it stopped working last week. Right now I just have a skimmer and my liverock and after a week I'm still at zero nitrates, will this continue with water changes or should I get some sort of carbon filtration? I'd like to jsut have nothing as I don't have a sump and don't like looking at tubes and stuff in my tank...

Yes I think it is called the Berlin method

Keep running it like this and if your ammonia or nitrates start to creep back up again then use a filter.
