So I am almost ready to start the new 55 gal tank. I have T5 lighting from my old saltwater tank, would this be good for some plants, or is it too much?:p

depends on how many bulbs... i wouldnt go more than 2x54w if you're not planning on running co2... if you're going to do co2, depending on the plants 3 or 4x54w would be ok... if you have a 4 or 6x54w, you can run actinics in place of bulbs within the 6500-10000k range to take up the space of the bulbs you dont need as actinics do nothing for plants

they do some for plants but not a whole lot. if you have a lot of light over the tank its a good idea to add the actinics since it makes the fish pop out.

what do you want to grow and how many bulbs and what type do you have?
