I have read that you shouldn't keep bio balls with live rock. It is my understanding that is only the case if you have 1-2 pounds per gallon...enough to support the tank. My tank is only 50 gallons. To me it is still fairly pricey to fill with enough live rock. What should I do if I only want to keep 10-15 pounds? Keep the bioballs?

Its not that you shouldn't, its just that it is not needed or desired with enough LR to handle the biological workload. Bioball tend to become a nitrate factory with time. If you have at least 1 lb per gallon, you can start slowly removing the bioballs. By slowny I mean like 20% per week allowing the biological filter to adjust.

keep your bio load low if you do remove the bio-balls :) mabe two small fish with only 15 lbs imo
